My Personal Diet Modification

By: Jessica Hudson

Today's Food Choices:

5:30 am: 2 large scrambled eggs, 2 cups strawberries, 16 oz bottle of water

9:00 am: 1 cup of cottage cheese,  2 kiwis, and 16 oz bottle of water.

11:00 am: 6 oz grilled chicken, 2 cups of steamed broccoli, 1 cup of whole grain rice, and 16 oz bottle of water.

2:30 pm: 3 Reese Peanut Butter Christmas Trees, and 16 oz bottle of water.

5:00 pm: Chicken and Steak mixed Fajitas with sour cream (peppers, onions, and sour cream) with no Tortillas, and a fountain Coke Zero.

7:00 pm: Apple and 16 oz bottle of water.

According to the My Fitness Pal Application on my iPhone today I have consumed too much: Sugar, Sodium, Cholesterol, Total Fat, Saturated Fat,  Dietary Fiber,  Protein, and Vitamin C.

It is obvious that I need to change some of the food choices that I am making. For starters, I have consumed way to much sugar with the Reese Cups. I plan to not buy anymore this holiday season, but it will be a tough battle, as I love peanut butter. I also need to watch the amount of sodium that I am consuming. One way to balance the amount of sodium that I am consuming will be to cut out the Coke Zero all together. I have actually stopped drinking a lot of carbonated drinks, just have been having one at dinner. I also need to be aware of my cholesterol. I think that instead of having two large scrambled eggs for breakfast every morning, I will begin by switching up my routine. I can add oatmeal into the mix instead of eggs.

According to the Dietary Guidelines, a female woman age 24 should consume 130 grams of carbohydrate daily, and today I have consumed 152 grams of carbohydrate (Sizer and Whitney, 2013). It is apparent that while my food choices were not too terrible, I still have some room for improvement. Health is a lifestyle that I am constantly learning, and I will strive to be the healthiest version of myself.
